You can now download the free Google Gmail for Android mobile devices on the Android Market. With the new and improved Google Gmail App, composing emails has never been more fun. There are very good improvements on this free email app. As Google said in its press release last week, “your most important message actions will now stick to the top of the screen, one click away, no matter how long the email is”.
There is a distinct limitation of the Google Gmail App though. The Priority Inbox, found on the Gmail desktop version is limited in the Android version. You can only see the “STARRED” items in Gmail (desktop version) if you have indeed enabled PRIORITY INBOX online.
The free Gmail app also works only if you have Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) installed in your unit. The known Android phones where Gmail App works seamlessly are: Google Nexus One, HTC EVO 4G, Motorola Droid Milestone and Motorola Droid X.
Google was also honest in admitting several errors in the Free Gmail App.
According to Google, “there is a known issue where the headers don’t stick properly on some mobile phones like HTC EVO 4G and HTC Droid Incredible.” Also, it may not be available in new android phone models like HTC Desire… yet.
The company is still looking for a solution to this problem. If you encountered some errors in Google Gmail app, please post them in the comment section.
